Alchemical Investigations

A virtual exhibition of collaborative paintings presented by Judith Hooks

Artists' Statement

Thank you for visiting this virtual exhibition of "Alchemical Investigations", the collaborative work of Judith Hooks and Harold Annen Jr. The artist appreciates your interest and look forward to hearing from you (to send email click here). Originally displayed at the old space of gallery 218 on April 14, 2000 (Gallery Night), Judith and Harold had been working together for five years. Judith graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Judith's talent as a painter combined with her knowledge of artist's materials and techniques blended with Harold's theory-inspired methods to produce uniquely collaborative works. Inspired by nature and Asian and Middle Eastern calligraphy, they simultaneously filled the canvases with layers of transparent oil paint. Foregoing brushes, the two artists filled the surface with marks  The goal was to produce a work to which the audience can return to many times, each time being a different experience from all others. Harold has since left the project and Judith continues the work on her own.
