Alchemical Investigations

A virtual exhibition of collaborative paintings by Judith Hooks and Harold Annen

Artists' Statement

Thank you for visiting this virtual exhibition of "Alchemical Investigations", the collaborative work of Judith Hooks and Harold Annen. The artists appreciate your interest and look forward to hearing from you (to send email click here) and, if possible, visiting with you during the reception on April 14, 2000 (Gallery Night). Judith and Harold have been working together for five years. Judith is a graduate of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Judith's talent as a painter combined with her knowledge of artist's materials and techniques blends with Harold's theory-inspired production methods to produce their uniquely collaborative works. Simultaneously, they fill the canvas with layers of transparent oil paint. Foregoing brushes, the two artists fill the surface with marks inspired by nature and Asian and Middle Eastern calligraphy. The goal is to produce a work to which the audience can return to many times, each time being a different experience from all others.
